“Not everything always goes as planned”, “Life has it’s ups and downs”, “This soon shall pass”... these are phrases that as a mother I hear myself repeat way to frequently. So, Monday while out on a shopping adventure with my mother in law, Ashley, and the two toddlers we had quite the experience. I know every time I leave the house to expect something, in the years with four children I have gone without diapers, clothes, bottles, wipes and even my own shoes. These things just will happen and they make for some of the best memories. But also can I just say... I am really loosing my mind - I am not sure if it because we have the teenagers and toddlers or is just having four kids, and I sometime feel really bad for Christopher, poor baby he seems to be the highlight of some of these "bad mommy moments" and so begins the story Oh...No, we have a toddler shopping naked!
I hurried and cleaned out the van as we got ready to go pick up Grandma, I was a little frustrated with the big kids for not doing it the night before because they leave all they trash and clothes in the car everyday. I threw the extra shoes and clothes in the house and cleaned out the diaper bag. I wanted to make sure I had plenty of diapers, baby wipes and juice. I had just left the house last week without juice and that cost me extra money with treats at the gas station. Finally I had everything was arranged and we were ready to go, I texted Grandma and we went to pick her up.
We drove about thirty minutes to our first stop, Chris drank a lot of juice in the car ride and spilled or spit (that is his new thing) it out. By the we had arrived at the golf shop to look for shoes for Ashley everyone was ready to get out of the car, Brooklynn just wanted to go to Costco for her hot dog. As soon as I picked Chris up from the car seat I knew we were in trouble, he was soaking wet and now my shirt was too. As I rummaged in the diaper bag I realized I didn’t have extra clothes I had thrown them in the house. I put him on my hip, decided he would cover up my wet shirt with him, we got this! Let go shopping...
Can I say shopping with a teenager is not an easy task. She wanders, she is determined to buy something, she won’t leave without buying something even though we tell her we can go to another store. Christopher is restless, Brooklynn is walking around so why shouldn't he. I have put him down and now he is running around the store hiding under racks, playing. Of course, it’s crazy town.
Oh it gets worse, he poops! Yep and Brooklynn announces over and over again. Because it stinks, and she doesn't want him near her, and well he is following her around. And Ashley she is still shopping because she needs shoes. Meanwhile Christopher has exploded and we are at maximum capacity. So I find the perfect shoes, and in the youth section of all places. We head straight to check out. And this is why I never leave the house without Grandma, and we always take Grandma shopping! In for the baby rescue, Grandma for the save, she takes him to the car gets him all cleaned up and naked. By the time I get out to the car I have one happy baby. We head across the street to do some much need clothes shopping. Old Navy for the win 50% off tees and shorts. And might I add he loved running around naked in the store.. It was a wrestling match to get that boy dressed.
