I am not sure if any of you feel the same way. But when I feel that my house is in a crazy disorganized chaos so am I. This year 2018 we as a family did not set out to make the standard New Years resolutions. I always feel like resolutions are goals we set to accomplish and that goals can be set at anytime not just Jan 1st. So this year we came up with a family motto, theme or quote.
“Don’t put it down, put it away - not sure where away is? Like/love it? -No, then give it away”
In effort to simplify the stuff in the house this habit has made my life so much easier. The daily mail comes in and I immediately sort it, throwing away almost all of it. I keep just what is needed, and even then I have minimized the papers I keep and file since most of our stuff is paid electronically. We have designated folders and binders for each of the kids papers, photos, memories, keepsakes I put away. I have designated a specific jars in my laundry room for change, misc parts, screws, and a items found in pockets so that I can easily empty pockets at wash.
With teenagers it is easy to assign house chores, I often have to make them go back and do them two or three times because I am picky and like clean counters and toilets. But the extra help is nice and I am grateful to be able to teach them good work ethic and that our home is a temple. My husband works so hard to provide is this beautiful home. I want him to be able to enjoy the home when he is home, and I want my children to respect and care for the home they have.
It’s easy to get lazy being an “at home” mom everyday. I mean you don’t really have a boss to report to. No one is going to come and tell you when to wake up or what to do everyday. You make your own schedule. You and your kids are on your own and it’s pretty easy to turn on the TV and video games. Bring out a big bag of cereal make a bunch of sheet forts and play in your pjs all day. And don’t get me wrong doing that every now and then is much needed and amazing. However I have found it to be very helpful to both my mental and physical health to give myself a schedule, somewhat. Waking up each morning and starting by making my bed. It is the first thing i do every morning, after I go potty (lol). Then each day I try to be productive and get my house chores done early so I can play and have fun the rest of the day. My days are really flexible and usually anfree for all. Most days are not planned which is fun and I always find ways to help a neighbor or start a new project or craft. For each week here is the basic schedule of how I keep myself and my house organized and maintained so that I feel like we somewhat live in a clean and organized chaos for a family of 6. I don’t do chores on the weekends unless it’s a project with my husband.
Each day: make beds, wash/fold two loads of laundry alternating loads (1 color, 1 towels or 1 white load with 1 bedding). Kitchen & countertops, Run dishwasher in am and unload in afternoon so it is ready for dinner clean up, take out all trash in house.
Monday: clean out car, backpacks/diaperbags, weekend clean up, yard work, trash to street
Tuesday: Dust, organize/sort a closet/drawer
Wednesday: Vacumm, mop floors, wipe walls, door handles, base boards.
Thursday: Bathrooms & Bedding
Friday: Clean out fridge, pantry, meal prep, Grocery shop.
Maybe this will help someone maybe not. Maybe you could help me. Honestly I hat Fridays because I suck at meal prepping. I am not sure what it is but ever since I lost the weight food and planning dinner is just not the same. I still enjoy cooking, but not all the time and not every day for 5 people who want different things in different schedules.
