How “inspired ministering” changed my life

Sunday at church in our Relief Society meeting I was asked to facilitate the lesson, the topic was on "Inspired Ministering" by President Henry B Eyring a talk given at priesthood session of the April 2018 General Conference.

We are often seeing “what does ministering mean?” Much like President Eyring’s talk he shares a story of ministry and so today I was inspired to share my story. I was not planning on it originally.  But because of the ministry and love of wonderful of this family, through the friendship my life and my families life our futures have changed.

When I was younger Bonny & Dennis  (a family already with many children of their own) took me and my brother into their home to care for us while my mother was in the hospital ill.  This was when I really first started attending the LDS church.  When the I was younger 12-14 years old the San Diego temple was being built and dedicated.  I with many youth signed a document that was sealed in the cornerstone, I may not have remembered what I have signed as a 14 year old girl later in life or especially the day I walked into the temple to be sealed but on that day arm in arm with my friend Kaylene she reminded me of that document, we were so excited to be at the temple together.

I later learned, the document I signed was a promise that I would be sealed in the temple for time and all eternity...I may have not been converted until many many years later, but I believe it was the ministering and love of this sweet family over the years that has lead me closer to Christ.

I share the picture below of my mother, me and my daughter the day my husband and my children were sealed as a family in the San Diego Temple on 9/8/2011, almost 18 years after signing that document (sealing my fate/faith). My mom was not able to go into the actual ceremony as she was never a member.  But knowing she was sitting in the waiting room there that day to support us meant the world, and I cherish this photo. And if I have not said it before - Thank you for always giving me a safe and loving place to go! 💕Bonnie (aka mom) and Dennis (aka Big D) love you guys!
